1Password has released a beta integration with Anthropic's Claude AI assistant that enables the AI to handle website authentication without accessing user passwords or credentials. The new feature, called 1Password for Claude, allows Claude to complete browser tasks requiring login while maintaining security separation between the AI and sensitive authentication data.
The integration is available to paid Claude subscribers across Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise tiers who use Claude Desktop on macOS. On the 1Password side, customers with individual, family, and business plans can access the feature. The technical requirements include a Mac computer, Claude Desktop application, Claude in Chrome browser, the 1Password desktop app, and the 1Password browser extension.
The system works by allowing Claude to request authentication when needed during browser-based tasks, while 1Password handles the actual credential management and login process. This architecture ensures that Claude never directly accesses passwords, security keys, or other sensitive authentication secrets stored in 1Password vaults.
