Anthropic has announced plans to implement invisible watermarking technology for text generated by its Claude AI assistant, marking a significant step toward compliance with European Union regulations. The company confirmed Friday that it will use a version of SynthID-Text, an open-source watermarking approach developed by Google DeepMind, to embed detectable patterns in AI-generated content.
The move comes in response to the EU's AI Act, which mandates that synthetic content across multiple formats must include machine-readable identification marks. The technology does not alter the meaning or quality of the generated text, but instead leaves a statistical fingerprint that can be analyzed to determine whether content was produced by an AI system.
