Zahid Hasan of Dhaka, Bangladesh, faces a nine-count federal indictment in the District of Montana involving the transfer of false identification, passport misuse, and social security fraud. If convicted on the primary counts, Hasan faces a maximum of 15 years in prison for each instance of document transfer or passport fraud. Additional penalties for the social security fraud charge include up to five years of imprisonment, while every count carries potential fines of $250,000 and periods of supervised release.
The prosecution alleges that between 2021 and 2025, Hasan managed websites called TechTreek and EGiftCardStoreBD to sell digital replicas of government identification. These templates were designed to help users bypass security measures at banks, social media companies, and cryptocurrency exchanges. The indictment notes that customers could use Bitcoin to purchase these templates for very low prices, such as a passport for twelve dollars or a driver's license for roughly fourteen dollars. Over several years, Hasan reportedly earned more than 2.9 million dollars from over 1,400 customers globally.

The specific investigation highlighted an incident in May 2025 where Hasan accepted Bitcoin from an individual located in Bozeman, Montana. Following the payment, he allegedly attempted to transfer fraudulent digital templates for a United States passport, a social security card, and a Montana driver’s license to that person. This specific transaction linked the international operation directly to the Montana jurisdiction where the charges were eventually filed.
Federal investigators have since seized the three primary domains Hasan used to run his business, including techtreek.com and idtempl.com, replacing the storefronts with official seizure notices. The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the FBI’s units in Billings and Salt Lake City, the FBI’s International Operations Division, and police departments in Dhaka. While the charges are serious, the legal system maintains that Hasan is presumed innocent until his guilt is proven in a court of law.
