The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and cyber agencies from the Five Eyes intelligence alliance have released guidance warning channel partners about emerging security threats from agentic AI systems. The advisory targets technology resellers, managed service providers, and other channel organizations that may deploy or recommend these autonomous AI tools to customers.
Agentic AI represents a new category of artificial intelligence systems that can operate independently, make decisions, and execute tasks without continuous human oversight. Unlike traditional AI tools that require human prompts for each action, agentic systems can pursue goals across multiple steps, interact with other software, and modify their approach based on results. This autonomy introduces new attack vectors and security considerations that differ from conventional AI implementations.
The technical concerns center on several key areas. Agentic AI systems may access sensitive data, execute code, or interact with critical infrastructure without adequate safeguards. If compromised or improperly configured, these systems could be manipulated to exfiltrate information, spread laterally across networks, or perform unauthorized actions at scale. The autonomous nature means errors or malicious instructions can propagate quickly before human operators detect problems.
Channel partners face particular exposure because they often serve as the implementation layer between AI vendors and end customers. Organizations deploying agentic AI without proper security frameworks risk data breaches, compliance violations, and operational disruptions. The distributed nature of channel partnerships can also create gaps in security oversight if vendors, resellers, and customers fail to coordinate on risk management.
The Five Eyes agencies recommend several protective measures for organizations working with agentic AI. These include implementing strict authentication and authorization controls, maintaining detailed logging of AI actions, establishing human approval requirements for sensitive operations, and conducting regular security assessments of AI behavior. Channel partners should also ensure customers understand the specific risks of autonomous systems and have appropriate incident response plans for AI-related security events.
