Samsung has introduced a new security feature in the One UI 9 beta that places Lockdown mode directly in the power menu, making it more accessible to Galaxy phone users. The option now appears alongside standard power menu items like Power off, Restart, and emergency functions, allowing users to quickly activate enhanced security protections with minimal steps.
Lockdown mode is a security feature designed to temporarily disable biometric authentication methods such as fingerprint scanning and facial recognition. This becomes particularly useful in situations where users may be compelled to unlock their devices against their will, or when they want to ensure that only password or PIN entry can grant access to their phone.
Testing conducted on a Galaxy S25 Ultra running One UI 9 beta 2 confirmed the feature's behavior. When users activate Lockdown mode from the power menu, the device immediately returns to the lock screen rather than remaining in the previously active application. From that point forward, all biometric authentication is disabled, and users must enter their PIN or password to unlock the device or even power it off.
The integration of Lockdown mode into the power menu represents a significant improvement in accessibility compared to previous implementations. By reducing the steps required to activate this security feature, Samsung makes it more practical for users to employ during time-sensitive situations where quick action is necessary to protect sensitive data.
Galaxy phone users running the One UI 9 beta can begin using this feature immediately. Those on stable releases should expect the functionality to arrive when One UI 9 officially launches. Users concerned about physical device security should familiarize themselves with accessing the power menu and locating the Lockdown option before they need it in an actual security situation.
